The College has one functional NSS Unit since 2002. While the enthusiasm of the student volunteers keeps the unit active, Teachers have also contributed in the steady growth of service orientation. Presently Dr. Balaram Das , Assistant Professor of History, is the Programme Officer of the NSS Unit, Barasat Government College.

HIV Awareness Programme (27.03.2024)

NSS Unit of Barasat Government College, in collaboration with West Bengal State Aids Prevention and Control Society, Govt. of West Bengal organises Awareness programme on HIV and Blood Donation on 27.03.2024

Our Resource Person Mr. Smarajit Roy, Assistant Director (VBD), Blood Transfusion Service Division, Swasthya Bhawan, Kolkata spoke about the importance of donating blood. He also spoke about the ways which should be taken in order to prevent Aids, a fatal disease caused by HIV. He also made us aware about the misconceptions about Blood donation and HIV.

The Programme ended with NSS Clap and vote of thanks.

75 NSS volunteers, 1 Programme Officer, 5 teachers were present in this awareness programme.

Blood Donation Camp (27.03.2024)

NSS Unit of Barasat Government College in collaboration with Barasat Medical College and Hospital, Blood Centre, organizes Blood Donation Camp on 27.03.24 from 11 a.m.onwards.

32 persons including NSS Volunteers, students and teacher have donated their blood.

NSS Unit of Barasat Government College in collaboration with SWAYAM (a recognised NGO) has observed 'International Women's Day' on 09.03 2024.

The program started with the NSS song. Then our Principal Sir, TCS and the guest speakers of SWAYAM have been felicitated. Principal Sir and TCS shared their views with us with regard to Gender Equality.

Then, Anita Pal, a case worker spoke about their organisation's effort to work towards Women's rights. She also spoke about the history of women's movement through PPT presentation.

Then, Dr. Somdatta Neogi spoke about the relevance and significance of celebrating Women's Day.

Then a short Cultural Programme, based on Women Empowerment has been performed by our volunteers

Then Principal Sir gave prizes and certificates to the first three winners of poster competition based on the topic, *'Imagine a Gender Equal World'*.

The program ended with Vote of thanks and NSS clap. 65 NSS Volunteers, Programme Officer and 4 teachers were present in this programme.

Volunteers of NSS Unit, Barasat Govt. College have participated in the campaign (28.02.2024-06.03.2024) on *MERA PEHLA VOTE DESH KE LIYE* on 02.03.2024. And they received the certificates from *MyGOV*.

NSS Volunteers of Barasat Government College (Debnita Kundu, Titli Saha, Ambiya Khatun and Subheccha Mondal) participated in VOTERS AWARENESS CAMPAIGN for YOUTH, as part of My Bharat programme, in their locality i.e under North 24 Pgs of West Bengal, India on 22.02.2024

NSS Unit, Barasat Government College has observed Republic Day on 26th January 2024 in the College premise.The program started with the rally, in which our TCS Sir, NSS volunteers and some teachers have participated. TCS.Sir has hoisted the National Flag.Then everyone sang the National Anthem. Everyone present in the programme have placed flowers on the altar in order to show respect to our freedom fighters. Then, TCS.Sir has given a short speech. Later, Principal Sir joined us and offered flowers on the altar.The programme ended with a short Cultural Programme.

Md. Mofizul Islam Mondal, NSS Volunteer of Barasat Government College has been felicitated for his essay writing on Swami Vivekananda's Ambrosial Words - the Eternal Inspiration of the Youth by Ramakrishna Math, Barasat, Kol 124 on the occasion of Youth Convention on 14.01.2024

An Awareness rally on SAFE DRIVE SAVE LIFE (from College ground to Barasat Municipality) as a part of Students' Week Programme has been organised by NSS Unit, Barasat Government College on 08.01.2024 from 2pm onwards. 44 NSS Volunteers and 6 teachers were present in this rally.

Weeding and maintenance of medicinal plants in our College campus have been done by the NSS volunteers of the NSS Unit, Barasat Government College on 02.12.2023.

On 26.11.2023, NSS volunteers of the NSS Unit, Barasat Govt. College read out the Preamble of the Indian Constitution (online) on the occasion of Constitution Day of India.

NSS Unit of Barasat Government College has observed NSS Day on 27.09.23.

The Programme started with Campus Cleaning by the NSS Volunteers.

Bleaching powder and Phenyl were given in several areas for Preventing Dengue.

In collaboration with Botany Department, Plantation and establishment of Medicinal Garden were done by our Principal Sir, TCS Sir and others.

Then a short Cultural Programme named 'Unfolding Imagination: Embracing our Society' ('কল্পনার উদঘাটন: সমাজকে আলিঙ্গন') was performed by NSS Volunteers and others.

Finally, 240 hrs Completion Certificates were distributed among  NSS Volunteers.

Nss Unit, Barasat Government College in collaboration with 24 Parganas (North), Forest Department, Government of West Bengal has observed World Environment Day, and organized different events under Mission LIFE 2023 on 05.06.2023
1. A specific area of the campus was cleaned by the NSS volunteers for plantation.
2. Tree Plantation was done in our campus by our Principal Sir
3. NSS volunteers along with officials of Forest Department participated in the rally with placards to show the importance of Tree Plantation and make us aware about the ways to keep our environment safe and clean
4. Saplings were distributed among the NSS volunteers by our Principal Sir
5. The seminar was organised by the Forest Department on awareness of 'Snake Bite'
6. Several NSS volunteers participated in the Speech competition on 'Solution to Plastic Polution'

NSS Unit, Barasat Government College in collaboration with Barasat Government Medical College and Hospital, Blood Centre,Government of West Bengal and Blood Transfusion Service Division, Swasthya Bhawan, Government of West Bengal has organized a Blood Donation Camp on 27.03.2023.

Among 34 blood doners, there were NSS volunteers, students, teaching and non-teaching staff.

11 NSS volunteers have helped in several ways to perform the programme successfully.

NSS Unit, Barasat Government College has observed International Women's Day (8th March) on 10.03.2023. The programme started with NSS song. Then our Principal Sir spoke about the significance of observing International Women's Day.
Our first speaker Dr. Proyash Sarkar, Professor, Department of Philosophy, Jadavpur University, spoke about Feminist Epistemology. He said, sex is categorized as male or female while gender refers to socially constructed roles, behaviors attitudes and expressions of male and female. He said that feminist Epistemology studies how gender influences our understanding of Knowledge and justification. He also discussed about standpoint feminist Epistemology. Feminist standpoint theory claims that standpoint of women has an epistemic advantage over phenomena in which gender is implicated.
Our second speaker Dr. Bidisha Chatterjee, Associate Professor, Deptt. of Philosophy, Ramakrishna Sarada Mission Vidyabhavan, has delivered lecture on Feminist Ethics under the coinage "The Other Voice". Carol Gilligan's feminist ideas were extensively discussed from feminist perspective of ethics and self-development. Her ideas of silence and development of women's voice were emphasized in the lecture.
After questions and answers session the Programme was ended by NSS Clap.

NSS volunteers of Barasat Government College were engaged in assisting the Sports Committee of our College to conduct the Annual Sports successfully on 21.02.2023.

NSS Unit & HEPSN, Equal Opportunity Cell of Barasat Government College have jointly organized an Awareness Programme on Protection of Rights, Full Participation & Equal Opportunity of Specially Abled.
The Programme was started by the NSS song.Then, our Principal, Dr. Samar Chattopadhyay talked about the Programme & showed his gratitude towards the Speakers.
In this programme, our resource person Dr. Nandini Ghosh, Assistant Professor, Institute of Development Studies, kolkata, talked about the concept of disability, the criteria of determining who is disabled and who is not. She also spoke about the fact that full participation of disabled persons both physically and mentally are possible only if social responsibility of inclusion is there in every fields.
The other speaker, Smt. Soma Bose, Lecturer, TTC, Ramkrishna Mission ,Souryapur, Barrackpore, spoke about global awareness. She tried to motivate the volunteers to work unitedly for the disabled persons.
63 volunteers & 5 teachers were present in this programme. Finally, the Programme was ended by NSS clap.

NSS Unit, Barasat Government College has observed National Youth Day on 12.01.2023 on the occasion of 160th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda through the lecture of Swami Purusheshanda, Ramkrishna Math, Barasat on the topic 'Role of Youth in Present Society'. Our Principal sir officially inaugurated the Programme. Then, Swamiji through his simple and lucid words talked about the role of young generations. He has discussed how we can perform our duties without any self interest, how we can control our desires and dedicate ourselves completely for the wellbeing of the nation. He told that we should try to serve others, love others without any sort of expectations. Finally, the programme ended with thanks giving and NSS clap.

NSS Unit, Barasat Government College 7 Day Special Camping Program on Health, Family Welfare and Nutrition (17-23 December 2022) Day 7 :  23.12.2022 : 2nd half In the Valedictory session, two best NSS volunteers and two best leaders have been awarded. Previous batch of NSS volunteers has been given certificates. The prize distribution ceremony has been followed by a colorful cultural programme with which the Camp has come to an end.

NSS Unit, Barasat Government College 7 Day Special Camping Program on Health, Family Welfare and Nutrition (17-23 December 2022) Day 7 :  23.12.2022 : 1st half  Dr. Srikanto Guria, Assistant Professor of Zoology, Barasat Government College has made the NSS volunteers aware of crucial health issues through his lecture on 'The Value of Health Education'. He has focused on lifestyle diseases like diabetes, diseases due to tobacco consumption mainly smoking and also mental health and hygiene. He also suggested measures for healthy lifestyle to be followed for healthy living.

NSS Unit, Barasat Government College 7 Day Special Camping Program on Health, Family Welfare and Nutrition(17-23 December 2022) Day 6 :  22.12.2022 : 2nd half In the second half, Professor (Dr.) Pranam Dhar, Programme Coordinator, NSS Cell, WBSU, has enlightened the NSS volunteers about bank fraudulent acts and bank security through his lecture on 'Bank Frauds : Awareness & Prevention' under the programme Financial Literacy. He has made the volunteers aware about different types of fraudulent activities like deception through ATM card, mobile phones and social media. He has also informed them about various measures that can be adopted for security in banking matters.

He has created awareness about prevention of diseases by vaccination for both the children and adults. Simultaneously, he has made the volunteers aware of Thalassemia and the importance of psychological counseling.

Sanitization has been done by using Phenyle and bleaching powder.

Madhumita Samanta, Counsellor, Thalassaemia Control Unit, Dept. of Haematology, Calcutta School of Tropical Medicine, Govt. of West Bengal, with her team has done thalassaemia test on 83 local people of Saradapally (adopted slum) and NSS Volunteers. She talked about Thalassaemia, its signs, how a new born baby gets infected through his/her carrier mother and father. She spreads awareness among the people about the fact that one should done thalassaemia test before marriage. Only through mass testing we can create thalassaemia free country.

NSS Unit, Barasat Government College 7 Day Special Camping Program on Health,Family Welfare and Nutrition (17-23 December 2022) Day 4: 20.12.2022 : 2nd half In the second half, Smt. Pratyasha Agrawal, Consultant Nutritionist, Department of Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics, made the residents of Saradapally aware of cleanliness in normal life under 'Nutrition Programme'. She has talked of cooking nutritious food, worms and to cure it and nutrition during pregnancy.

Somnath Das (Trained from Ministry of Ayush, Govt. of India, Faculty of Art of Living) has trained the children of Saradapally (adopted slum of NSS Unit) yogasana for physical and mental health under the programme "Preliminary Health Care". He has shown different asanas and meditation for improving concentration and healthy growth.

Mousumi Chatterjee, Folk Singer & her Troupe distributed masks among the people and made the local children of Saradapally (adopted slum) aware of importance of sanitization.

7 Day Special Camping Programme (17-23.12.2022) on '#Health, #FamilyWelfare & #Nutrition' Day 3: 19.12.2022 : 2nd half : In the second half, Smt. Soma Basu Dutta, Counsellor, ICTC, Barasat Govt. Medical College & Hospital has talked about HIV AIDS in the Awareness Programme. She has made the people aware about the causes of HIV AIDS, symptoms of AIDS, its treatment 'Antiretroviral Therapy'. She has focused on how pregnant women get affected by AIDS and the prevention of "Parent to Child Transmission of HIV AIDS"

7 Day Special Camping Programme (17-23.12.2022) on '#Health, #FamilyWelfare & #Nutrition' Day 3: 19.12.2022 : 1st half : In the first half, Dr.Olivia Ganguly, Assistant Professor of Human Development & Psychological Counsellor, RKVM Sarada Ma Girls' College has talked on 'Life Skill Education in the Anti-Addiction Campaign' at Saradapally (adopted slum of the NSS Unit). She has discussed about the causes and forms of addiction, its spread across gender and age, impact of addiction and finally the measures to handle this addiction problem. Respected Councillor of Saradapally, Sri. Samir Talukdar was present in the programme.

NSS Unit, Barasat Government College 7 Day Special Camping Programme on 'Health,Family Welfare and Nutrition' From17th to 23rd December 2022 Day One: 17.12.2022 In the second half, NSS Unit has organized an Awareness Rally on Dengue from Barasat Government College to Barasat Municipality. NSS Volunteers, along with the teachers have actively participated in the Rally. The local people have been made aware about dengue and its prevention.

NSS Unit, Barasat Government College 7 Day Special Camping Programme on 'Health,Family Welfare and Nutrition' From17th to 23rd December 2022 Day One: 17.12.2022 In the first half, respected Principal, Dr. Samar Chattopadhyay has officially inaugurated the Programme and has given introduction on the theme.Then our Resource Person, Dr.Jayati Ghosh, Associate Professor of Zoology, BGC has delivered lecture on Food and Nutrition.She has highlighted the problems of malnutrition, growing population, iodine and protein deficiency in India and what are the steps to be taken to solve these problems.

Four volunteers of the NSS Unit, Barasat Government College have participated in National Conference on Clean Environment & Sustainability Swachh Bharat Mission Campaign, organized by NSS Cell, WBSU on 02.12.2022. Among them, Puja Biswas has been awarded and received a prize by the NSS Cell of the University for her poster entitled "Stop Use Plastic".

As a part of #NSS regular activities, the #NSS volunteers of Barasat Govt. College, #planted a sapling in the college campus on 10.11.2022.

NSS Unit of Barasat Government College, in collaboration with West Bengal State Aids Prevention & Control Society, Govt. of West Bengal, organised an Orientation Programme on 'HIV Awareness' on 10.11.2022. Respected Principal of our college, Dr. Samar Chattopadhyay (WBSES) delivered keynote address in the programme. The first Resource Person, Smt. Sumita Samanta, Deputy Director, IES, WBSAP&CS, made the NSS volunteers aware about HIV and AIDS and the precautionary measures to prevent it. Sri. Jagadish Jana, Assistant Director, WBSAP&CS, discussed practical cases of HIV and AIDS with focus on LGBTQ community for multidimensional awareness on the issue and to encourage the volunteers to work for the society. Dr. Somaditya De, Assistant Professor, Deptt. of Zoology, BGC made the students aware about biological dimensions of the virus and the diseases. Smt. Mousumi Chatterjee and her folk team ,through performing art, created awareness about HIV and AIDS.

On 09.09.2022, the NSS Unit of Barasat Government College observed International Literacy Day (08.09.2022). NSS Unit of Barasat Government College arranged the Poster Competition for the NSS Volunteers on the occasion of "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav". Among them Neha Sultana, Barnik Sardar, Debnita Kundu secured 1st, 2nd & 3rd position respectively. The result was declared on 10.08.2022.
They *received the Certificates* of Appreciation from the *West Bengal State University* on 15.08.2022.

Volunteers of NSS Unit, Barasat Government College have been receiving the Certificate of appreciation since 1st August 2022 for successfully pinning a flag in *HAR GHAR TIRANGA*, an initiative by the *Ministry of Culture, Government of India* to mark *AZADI KA AMRIT MAHOTSAV* this year.

Today (23.06.2022) the NSS Unit, BGC has successfully conducted the Awareness programmes on anti-Drug, Plastic Pollution and also distributed leaflets as a part of anti-plastic campaign in the adopted slum Saradapally, Barasat.
Smt. Payel Biswas, SI, Barasat Police Station , and Prasanta Debnath, health and family welfare Department, Barasat Municipality were the resource persons in these Programmes respectively.
Sri Samir Talukder, Councillor of Saradapally was present in this programme.

Today (22.06.2022) the NSS Unit, BGC has successfully conducted the Awareness Programmes on Dengue, followed by sanitisation of different pockets of the adopted slum Saradapally, Barasat.

Today (21.06.2022) the NSS Unit, Barasat Goverment College has visited Saradapally, the slum adopted by it. The NSS volunteers have conducted a survey to identity and understand the problems of this slum with the aim to organise Awareness and Developmental Programmes over there.

An awareness programme on Student Credit Card (SCC) was held on 27.12.2021 from 12.30 pm to 2.00 pm within college premises for extensive outreach of the SCC among the NSS volunteers and all other students.
