Kanyashree Prakalpa

Department of Women Development and Social Welfare, Government of West Bengal (DWD&SW) has designed the Kanyashree Prakalpa - a conditional cash transfer scheme with the aim of improving the status and well being of the girl child in West Bengal. The Annual Scholarship is for unmarried girls aged 13-18 years enrolled in classes VIII-XII in government recognized regular or equivalent open school or equivalent vocational/technical training course. The One-time Grant of Rs. 25,000/- or K2 is provided for girls turned 18 at the time of application, enrolled in government recognized regular or open school/college or pursuing vocational/technical training or sports activity. Both the benefits under the scheme will be granted to girls who belong to families with annual family income not more than Rs. 1, 20,000/- only. However West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has lifted the ceiling on annual family income to get Kanyashree Scholarship. A girl child will enjoy the Scholarship even if her parents are in Government service .

Swami Vivekananda Merit cum Means Scholarship

With a view to assisting the meritorious students belonging to economically backward families in the State of West Bengal to pursue higher studies, the Government of West Bengal introduces this scheme of giving scholarships at different levels of higher studies, at educational institutions based in West Bengal. The Swami Vivekananda Merit Cum Means Scholarship Scheme has been thoroughly revamped in the year 2016 to cover more number of students as well as to enhance the scholarship amounts significantly. The upper ceiling for family income has been fixed at Rs.2,50,000/- per annum. Candidates opting for these scholarships and found eligible, will not be allowed to enjoy any other governmental (central/state) scholarship or stipend for the same course/stage of study. However, one time grants or assistances received from any source, or free or partly-free studentship allowed by the host institutions will not debar the students from availing of the benefits of this scheme.

Another Scheme is known as K3, in which one time scholarship is provided to those girl students who are persuing their post graduation in various P.G. Departments.However ,in order to apply for K3 scholarship a candidate need to complete K2 authentication process. The website of this scholarship is same as Swami Vivekananda Merit cum Means Scholarship.

Minority Scholarship

This Scholarship is awarded to students for pursuing studies from class XI and onwards up to Ph.D. The students have to be a resident of West Bengal and have to pass their last final examination securing more than 50% marks. He/she should have been continuing his/her studies in regular mode.

Minority Scholarship (Below 50%)

Talent Support stipend is a State Government sponsored programme under MA& ME Department, Govt. Of West Bengal. This stipend is awarded to the students who are resident of West Bengal and have passed their last final examination securing less than 50% marks. He/she should have been continuing his/her studies in regular mode. Scholarship is awarded to students for pursuing studies from class XI and onwards up to Ph.D. Annual Family Income of the student should be upto 2 lakhs. 30 % quota of scholarship has been earmarked for girl students.

Chief Minister Relief Fund Nabanna Scholarship

This stipend is given to students who are permanent resident of the State of West Bengal and have got 60% in aggregate in H.S. Examination or 55% marks in the Honours Subjects. The student should not enjoy any other Govt. Scholarship or stipend (central/state) for the same course or stage and whose annual family income does not exceed Rs. 60000/-.

P.G. Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child

In order to achieve and promote girls education, UGC has introduced a Post Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child with an aim to compensate direct costs of girl education to all levels especially for such girls who happen to be the only girl child in their family. Girl students without having any brother or the girl student who are twin daughters/ fraternal daughter may also apply for scholarship under the aforesaid scheme. Girl students up to the age of 30 years at the time of admission in PG courses are eligible. The scheme is applicable to such single girl child who has taken admission in regular, fulltime first year Masters Degree course in any designated university or a post graduate college. This scholarship is available to PG-I year student only.

NSP (National Scholarship Portal)

National Scholarships Portal is one-stop solution through which various services starting from student application, application receipt, processing, sanction and disbursal of various scholarships to Students are enabled. National Scholarships Portal is taken as Mission Mode Project under National e-Governance Plan (NeGP)

This initiative aims at providing a Simplified, Mission-oriented, Accountable, Responsive & Transparent 'SMART' System for faster & effective disposal of Scholarships applications and delivery of funds directly into beneficiaries account without any leakages.

Comprehensive MIS System to facilitate monitoring every stage of Scholarships distribution i.e. from student registration to delivery of funds. Central Sector Scheme for meritorious College and University Students and Post Metric Scholarships for Beedi workers and for Students with disabilities are also provided within National Scholarship Portal.

Oasis Scholarship

It is a dedicated Scholarship Portal for West Bengal Students. It is run by the backward classes Welfare Department Government of West Bengal. The Portal enlists both Pre Metric and Post Metric Scholarship for the Students who are resident of this State .

POST MATRIC SCHOLARSHIP SCHEMES UNDER CENTRAL ASSISTANCE Post-matric scholarship to SC/ST students The objective of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribe students studying at post matriculation or post secondary stages to enable them to complete their education. The Income ceiling of parents/guardian has recently been enhanced from Rs. 2, 00,000/- p.a. to Rs. 2, 50,000/- p.a. The Government of India bears the entire expenditure beyond the committed liability which is to be borne by the State Government. The committed liability of the State government is equal to the sum total of expenditure incurred during the closing year of the last plan period. Thus the committed liability of the State Government for the year 2012-13 shall be equal to the total expenditure incurred under each of the schemes (Post-Matric Scholarship for SC and Post-Matric Scholarship for ST) during 2011-12, the last year of the 11th Five-Year Plan period. The rates of Post-Matric Scholarship have been r e v i s e d with effect from 01-07-2010. However, the Govt. of India has decided that such committed liability shall be decided by calculating the expenditure in the pre-revised rates. The State Government follows the rates fixed by the Government of India. However, in cases of Post-Matric Scholarship for hostellers in Group III & IV are less (Rs. 570/- & Rs.380/- per month respectively) than the rates fixed by the State Government, the State Govt. pays at higher rates fixed by the State Govt. (Rs.750/- per month) and the additional burden is borne by the State Government.

POST-MATRIC SCHOLARSHIP SCHEMES UNDER CENTRAL ASSISTANCE Post-matric scholarship to OBC students: The objective of this Scheme is to provide financial assistance to O.B.C. students studying at Post-secondary stages of education to enable them to complete their education. This scheme has been implemented in this state from the financial year 2003-04. The scholarship is given for study of various recognized Postsecondary courses pursued in recognized educational institutions. Same procedure for payment of Post-matric scholarship to SC/ST student is followed. There is a ceiling of family income of Rs.1,00,000/- p.a.

Full Free- Half Freeship

Barasat Government College also provides Full and Half free ship to economically backward students both at Honours and General level. However these students must have good attendance and brilliant academic record. The students are selected for free ship on the basis of interview. Decisions of the Head of the Department at Honours level and that of the Students Support Cell at the General level are final
