NSOUBarasat Government College Study Centre [ About the LSC ]The Barasat Govt. College Study Centre under Netaji Subhas Open University started its journey with only 16 (sixteen) students in the BDP in Arts in 1998. Al that time it was the only Study Centre of Netaji Subhas Open University in the North 24 Parganas district. So it was a great responsibility on our shoulder to reach every promising learner all over the district with many of them from the backward classes and minority community. We did not make much effort for advertisement but hold several induction meetings and seminars to attract learners to the open mode of education, as we thought it is the learners who are most important to take our message to the masses. It yielded result. After some initial hesitation hundreds of learners and their guardians rushed to the Study Centre to know about the viability and validity of the open mode of education offered by Netaji Subhas Open University. It was a challenging time but we were confident them with assurance. Gradually they overcome their hesitation and accepted the new system of education and adopted with it. In the meantime new courses were opened, Science stream also introduced (2000) and even Post-Graduate courses in different streams were offered (2003). There was rush of learners seeking admission and the number of students increased phenomenally. At present the number of students is over 2000 including BDP and Post-Graduate courses and Arts, Science and Commerce streams are running. The Netaji Subhas Open University has really opened up a vista in the horizon of open education system in West Bengal and we are proud that our Study Centre is a part of it. However there are limitations too and we face some problems to run the Study Centre. We are in constant touch with the University Officials. They are looking after our problems and assure us of solving those as far as practicable. In spite of hindrances we are promised to offer services to our students and we are doing that will dedication and urgency. The Study Centre is equipped with a small library and sometimes we lend book to the students. The Students have also access to the Reading Room facility of the General Library of the parent college and we are thankful to the Principal of the College for extending this facility to the learners of the Study Centre.
