The objective of the College Students Grievance Cell is to develop a responsive and accountable attitude among all the students in order to maintain a harmonious educational atmosphere in the institute and outside. The grievance procedure sets out a proper way for students who want to have their grievances heard and complete in a responsive way. The main objectives are:

  • To provide a chance for the students to freely express their grievance, with utmost anonymity.
  • To set up a machinery for speedy and expeditious resolution of the grievance.
  • To provide a suitable counselling to the students in the process of resolving the grievance.

Mission and Vision

Barasat Government College is committed to provide a harmonious, resourceful and productive learning environment to the students from the very dawn of its journey in the field of higher education. The Students Grievance Redressal Cell has been established with this mission and objective in July 2018 to look after the grievances and intervein for their timely and satisfactory disposal and redressal through thoughtful and sincere initiative. Since its establishment, the cell has been working as one of the fundamental functional unit of the college, endeavoring to resolve the students’ concerns with utmost sincerity and commitment. The college constitutes the cell, with faculties from various disciplines and departments, so that issues of various types can be addressed and taken care of.

The committee mainly deals with grievances and issues related to –

  • Admission
  • Infrastructure
  • Cleanliness and hygiene
  • Teaching-learning.

On the whole, the vision of the CSGRC / SGRC is to promote a fair, harmonious, supportive and congenial academic interface.

Following are the cardinal aims and objectives of the cell:

  • To uphold the dignity of the College by promoting cordial Student-Student relationship, Student-Teacher relationship.
  • To ensure that grievances are resolved promptly, objectively with sensitivity and in complete confidentiality.
  • To ensure that the views of each grievant and respondent are respected and that any party to a grievance is neither discriminated against nor victimized.

The members of the cell/committee must remember to resolve the grievances in such a way, that the rights and dignity of both the parties must be honoured.  The cell/committee has the following functions at its jurisdiction as a statutory body:

  • To promote awareness amongst the students about the activities and importance of the SGRC.
  • To provide with proper advocacy to the student to express their grievances freely without any fear of being victimized or reproached.
  • To ensure that there is no vindictive motive of any kind against any applicant, witness, or any other participant in the grievance redressal process because of such participation in the grievance process.
  • The cell/committee must protect the privacy and confidentiality of all concern in the process as grievant or respondent, as per the constitutional guidelines.
  • To ensure that there is no Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited in and outside the institution. Any violation of ragging and disciplinary rules should be urgently brought to the notice of the head of the institution.

To sum up, the CSGRC / SGRC has been sharp in speedy redressal of the grievances, considering the gravity of the issue. The cell thus, endeavours to resolve and redress any grievance related issue, and work for satisfactory solution for all with its utmost earnestness.

Redressal Mechanisms

Barasat Government College has followed UGC and Government guidelines by establishing College Grievances Redressal cell. The problems as encountered by the students related to academic affairs, if reported, are brought before the Grievance Redressal Committee which after careful investigation tries to bring about a remedy. Any student can lodge a Complaint through Email in a specified format given in the College website. The CSGRC convenes meetings based on it, involving the student(s) along with the connected parties (if necessary) to immediately solve it. The Departments submit Annual Grievances Reports to the CSGRC. On the basis of these along with its own activities, the CSGRC compiles an annual report.

College Students Grievance Redressal Cell, Barasat Government College believes in utmost transparency in all administrative and governance related matters. Keeping in mind with this philosophy, the IQAC of the College has designed a detailed workflow which denotes the entire mechanism and process of Grievance submission and redressal. The main benefit of having a transparent and detailed workflow is that students would have a clear picture of the processes they have to follow to lodge complaints or grievances and also regarding the redressal mechanism of the same. The students can register their grievances and complaints with the Grievance Redressal Committee simply by a plain paper or downloading the grievances form, filling it up and submission of the same through the given Email id. The students can submit their grievances to The principal, The Head of the Departments or to Grievance cell. They can drop their grievances in the Drop box also. The committee then meets and if necessary, with the aggrieved party (or parties) in a one-to-one basis. On the basis of the grievance, the Committee recommends the action(s) to be taken by the appropriate authorities (College office / Departments / Examination committees as applicable on a case-to-case basis) to solve the issue(s). The detailed flowchart of the process and the form is attached herewith in a document. The Committee maintains the grievance letter/forms submitted by the student(s) and the Minutes of the Meetings of the College Students Grievance Redressal Committee containing a detailed sketch regarding the issue of the complaint and the recommended list of actions to be undertaken to resolve the issue(s).
